NEW YORK (AP) - Tina Charles had 15 points and 14 rebounds to help the New York Liberty beat the Connecticut Sun 71-66 on Friday night.

Avery Warley-Talbert added her own double-double with 11 points and 11 boards for New York (13-16), which took over third place in a crowded Eastern Conference playoff chase.

Katie Douglas scored 26 points to lead the Sun (11-20), who were missing rookie Chiney Ogwumike for a second straight game because of an abscessed tooth.

Douglas rallied the Sun from an eight-point halftime deficit to take a 45-44 lead midway through the third quarter.

Swin Cash's jumper gave New York a 55-53 with 7:09 left in the game. She added two free throws 45 seconds later and New York never trailed the rest of the way.

The Liberty won despite shooting 33 percent from the field because they made 31 of 37 free throws.

MYSTICS 74, FEVER 61

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Kia Vaughn scored 22 points and Ivory Latta added 14 to help the Mystics beat the Fever.

The Mystics (15-15) increased their hold on the second seed in the Eastern Conference.

Washington led by two after one and eight at the half. The Mystics put the game away expanding their lead to as many as 26 in the second half.

Tamika Catchings had 11 points to lead Indiana (13-17), which is in the hunt for one of the final playoff spots.

SPARKS 80, DREAM 77, OT

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Candace Parker made two free throws with 1.8 seconds remaining in overtime and the Sparks held on for a win against the Dream.

Atlanta had a chance to tie it but Shoni Schimmel's 3-pointer was after the buzzer and fell short.

Parker scored 26 points and Jantel Lavender added 15 as the Sparks (14-16) moved closer to a playoff berth. Nneka Ogwumike had 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Sparks spoiled the homecoming of Michael Cooper, who made his first appearance at Staples Center as Atlanta coach.

Cooper, who is recovering from surgery for tongue cancer, served two stints as Sparks coach and guided them to WNBA titles in 2001-02.

SHOCK 79, STARS 62

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Odyssey Sims scored 22 points to help the Shock keep alive their playoff hopes with a victory over the Stars.

The victory was Tulsa's 12th this season - the most since the team moved from Detroit in 2010.

Tulsa (12-19) is one game behind San Antonio (13-18) for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Glory Johnson had 14 points and 11 rebounds to tie a Shock franchise record for most double-doubles in a season with 17 previously set by Cheryl Ford in 2006.

Courtney Paris also had a double-double, her 12th, with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Skylar Diggins scored 14 points.

Sims suffered an apparent shoulder injury with 1:49 to play when she landed hard on her left shoulder at midcourt.

San Antonio had three players in double figures led by Becky Hammon with 16.
