Missouri State Fair, concerts begin today

Once again, it's Missouri State Fair time in Sedalia, with music the focus of the Grandstand entertainment on eight of the fair's 11 nights.

Tractor and truck pulling events fill the other three days and evenings.

Unless otherwise noted, all shows begin at 7:30 p.m.

• The music begins tonight, with country music performers Scotty McCreery (also the "American Idol" television show's 2011 winner) and Kelsey K, who, at 15, already is an accomplished singer and songwriter.

Track seating tickets are $25; grandstand tickets are $20.

• Rock-and-Roll bands Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Black Stone Cherry appear Friday.

Tickets are $35 for premium track seats; $30 for the regular track seating; $25 for the premium grandstand; and $20 for the regular grandstand.

• Boonville native and country star Sara Evans and Arkansas native Joe Nichols perform Saturday.

Tickets are $35 for premium track seats; $30 for the regular track seating; $25 for the premium grandstand; and $20 for the regular grandstand.

• The Beatles - well, a Beatles tribute band called "Beatlemania Live!" which notes it is "not sponsored, endorsed by or affiliated in any way with Apple Corp. Ltd. or The Beatles" - perform Tuesday.

All tickets are $10.

• Florida Georgia Line, a country duo with one singer from each state, with Colt Ford as the opening act, appear Wednesday.

Tickets are $45 for premium track seats; $35 for the regular track seating; $30 for the premium grandstand; and $25 for the regular grandstand.

• Thursday features "An Evening with MercyMe," a Christian rock group.

Track seating tickets are $25; grandstand tickets are $20.

• Next Friday, it's "Jake Owen's Days of Gold Tour," starring country artists Jake Owen and the Eli Young Band, and special guests, The Cadillac Three.

Tickets are $45 for premium track seats; $35 for the regular track seating; $30 for the premium grandstand; and $25 for the regular grandstand.

• Halestorm, a heavy metal band, and the alternative metal band Sevendust will close out the fair's concert series on Aug. 16.

Tickets are $35 for premium track seats; $30 for the regular track seating; $25 for the premium grandstand; and $20 for the regular grandstand.

Music takes a break Sunday and Monday, as the grandstand becomes home to the Missouri Association Championship Truck and Tractor Pull.

The qualifying events are at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, with tickets for the morning events at $12 for adults and $5 for ages 6-12. The 7 p.m. program is $15 for adults and $6 for ages 6-12.

All day tickets also are available, at $20 for adults and $9 for ages 6-12.

Children 5 and under are free for all events.

The finals are Monday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are the same as Sunday's events.

Finally, on the Fair's final night, the "Missouri State Fair Protect the Harvest Summer Nationals" of the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League will begin at 5 p.m.

All tickets are $25, with children 5 and under free.
