Alewine nominated for Woman of the Year

WARRENSBURG - Central Missouri track and field national champion Erin Alewine has been selected as a Mid-America Intercollegieate Athletics Association nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award. She is one of 120 female nominees across divisions I, II and II.

Alewine was a finalist for the MIAA's Ken B. Jones Award as the conference's top female student-athlete this past spring. She was named a first team Academic All-American for the second straight year after claiming her second national championship in the indoor pentathlon.

The former Jefferson City High School standout was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Regional Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight year and also claimed All-American honors in the outdoor heptathlon and finished her career as a 12-time All-American.

A dietetics major, Alewine graduated in May with a 3.58 grade point average.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award has honored graduating female student-athletes for their achievements in academics, athletics, community service and leadership for 24 years.

The selection committee will select the top 10 honorees in each division and the top 30 honorees will be announced in early September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will choose from nine finalists to determine the winner, who will be announced at the annual ceremony in Indianapolis.

Alewine has also been awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship by the NCAA, one of 29 female student-athletes across divisions I, II and III from the spring season to be awarded the one-time, non-renewable educational grant of $7,500.
