Four people hurt in Jefferson City crash

Four Arizona residents were injured in a single vehicle crash at 3:50 p.m. Saturday on an East McCarty Street ramp at U.S. 50/63 in eastern Jefferson City.

Witnesses reported to police that a GMC Yukon traveling westbound on the highway took the exit ramp to East McCarty Street. As the Yukon exited the highway, it veered off the left side of the roadway and began sliding down the embankment. The vehicle then began overturning and came to rest on its top.

Police report the driver and front seat passenger were both wearing seat belts. Also inside the vehicle were their two children who were in child restraints.

The male driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and then taken by Staff for Life helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia. He was reported in critical condition.

His wife, the front seat passenger, was transported by ambulance to University Hospital. She was reported in stable condition.

Their two children were also taken to University Hospital after being treated at a local hospital. Both children are also in stable condition.

Police did not immediately release the names of the driver and passengers pending notification of the crash to their families.
