2 dogs missing from Missouri shelter

CAPE GIRARDEAU (AP) - A Cape Girardeau shelter is offering a $500 reward after the apparent theft of a pit bull and another dog from a shelter in southeast Missouri.

Employees at the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri discovered the dogs missing Saturday. One of the dogs is a 7-year-old male chocolate pit bull terrier, and the other is a 7-month-old female blue American Staffordshire terrier.

The shelter says their cage doors were opened with a chain cutter.

Shelter staff say they're concerned about the dogs in part because their breeds are used in dogfighting. Police are investigating.

The organization is offering the $500 reward for the dogs' safe return or information that leads to their return.
