Columbia man gets three years for thefts

A Columbia man charged in connection with a series of thefts from motor vehicles that occurred in April 2013 on the eastern side of Jefferson City has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Marland Lane, 23, pleaded guilty to one count of felony stealing.

Police department probable cause statements show fingerprints were found on a victim's vehicle during the course of the investigation.

The fingerprints, analyzed by the Missouri Highway Patrol Crime Lab, implicated Lane.

Boone County sheriff's deputies were later involved in a pursuit with a vehicle after a report of shots fired.

The vehicle was the same used in the Jefferson City thefts.

The vehicle crashed, and Lane was arrested at the scene.

A search of the vehicle resulted in numerous stolen items, including firearms and ammunition, being recovered along with fingerprints that were later determined to be Lane's.
