Missouri wins series at Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - For the second straight day, Missouri jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning.

But unlike Saturday, when No. 3 Florida rallied for a 9-4 win, the Tigers were able to finish the job.

Corrin Genovese hit a grand slam in the top of the first inning as No. 15 Missouri held on to claim a 5-4 victory Sunday to take two of three games from the Gators in the Southeastern Conference series.

Sami Fagan and Emily Crane both singled with one out in the first and Mackenzie Sykes drew a walk to set up Genovese, who jumped on the second pitch she saw and drove it just beyond the center field wall.

Casey Stangel led off the second inning with a home run to deep right-center field to give Missouri a 5-0 cushion and the Tigers didn't look back from there.

Freshman pitcher Tori Finucane improved to 19-5 on the season after throwing a complete game, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits, while walking five and striking out 10.

Missouri improves to 38-13 overall and 14-7 in the SEC. Florida is now 42-10 and 12-9.

The Tigers will host Creighton in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday at University Field.
