Helias tennis at tournament

SEDALIA - The Helias Crusaders had two singles players and two doubles teams take part in the Sedalia Smith-Cotton Tournament on Friday.

In singles, the best result was turned in by Ethan Lesko, who placed fourth. After getting a bye in the opening round, he posted an 8-0 win against a player from Duchesne. He then lost 3-6, 6-4, 4-7 (match tiebreaker) to a Smith-Cotton player before falling 10-6 to a player from Marshall in the third-place match.

The other Crusader playing singles, Ryan Pollock, lost 8-3 to a player from Lee's Summit and fell 8-1 to a Marshall player.

The best doubles finish came from Caleb Seidel and Jeremy Wolters, who finished third. After a bye, they beat a Jefferson City team 8-2. They then lost 3-6, 2-6 to a Marshall duo before rebounding to beat another Marshall team 10-8.

Also in doubles, T.J. Hagenhoff and Kirk Twehous lost both their matches to teams from Duchesne, and by identical 8-2 scores.

The Crusaders will play today in the Hannibal Tournament.
