Jefferson City's Natalie Vance makes her way past the dejected defense of Sedalia Sacred Heart while rejoining her teammates after scoring a second-half goal in Friday's game at the 179 Soccer Park.

The results were the same. The feelings afterward were completely different.

"After the first one, we were feeling pretty good," Lady Jays coach Eddie Horn said Friday after Jefferson City opened play in the Capital City Invitational with a pair of 3-0 victories at the 179 Soccer Park.

"The second one, we weren't ready to play and that's all my fault."

Jefferson City opened with a win against Springfield Catholic.

"It was one of our better games with possessions all year," Horn said. "We were pretty sharp and had a hold of the game the entire time."

Sarah Luebbert gave the the Lady Jays the lead with a first-half goal assisted by Mackenzie Lochhead. But that was it for the scoring in the first 40 minutes.

"We played a lot better than that, we missed on a couple of very good chances, that was really the only disappointing thing," Horn said.

Jefferson City then scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half to put the game away. Brianna Lock and Eden Hoogveld tallied the goals for the Lady Jays, assisted by Tayler LePage and Luebbert.

"That gave us a good chance to see some other players, we played nine subs in the second half," Horn said.

Megan Foster got the shutout in goal for Jefferson City.

The second game against Sedalia Sacred Heart was a different story.

"We were really slow from the start," Horn said. "And credit Sacred Heart, a small school that was playing one of the biggest schools in the state. They had their shorts tied pretty tight and were ready to play. We were just out there."

Jefferson City got on the board 15 minutes into the game. On a free kick, Kaley Ruff knocked the ball in front of the net, where Lochhead was waiting to put it past the Sacred Heart keeper.

The Lady Jays put the game away with a pair goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Natalie Vance scored both for Jefferson City. The first came on a breakaway, when she shot the ball off the leg of the keeper and it rolled into the net. Luebbert got an assist on the play. She got the second nine minutes later on a give-and-go move to the net.

Becca Sturgess was in goal for Jefferson City's eighth straight shutout and 11th on the season.

"Sacred Heart had a couple of the better scoring looks against us that anybody has had in the past couple of weeks," Horn said.

Jefferson City (12-1-1, ranked No. 5 in Class 3) will conclude play in the Invitational at 11 a.m. today against Lee's Summit West.
