Boys Tennis: Jays win tournament

LADUE, Mo. — The Jefferson City Jays went 3-0 to win the the Ladue Invitational Tournament on Saturday.

Jefferson City defeated Ladue Horton Watkins 5-4 in its opening match on Saturday morning, before claiming a 6-3 win against Class 1 state runner-up John Burroughs in the title match.

Singles winners against Ladue were David Clausen (6-1, 6-4); David Steinmeyer (4-6, 6-2, 10-6 match tiebreaker); Spencer Bone (6-2, 6-1) and Joey Mendez (6-1, 3-6, 10-6 match tiebreaker).

Dane Biesemeyer (6-7, 3-6) and Josh Morris (6-7, 3-6) both lost their singles matches for the Jays.

In doubles, Clausen and Mendez won 8-2, while the doubles teams of Steinmeyer and Bone (4-8) and Biesemeyer and Morris (3-8) both lost.

Clausen (7-5, 6-1); Joey Mendez (6-1, 6-4) and Morris (6-2, 6-4) all won their singles matches against John Burroughs.

Steinmeyer (1-6, 5-7), Bone (3-6, 4-6) and Biesemeyer (0-6, 4-6) lost their matches.

The Jays swept the doubles matches.

Steinmeyer and Bone (9-8, 7-5), Clausen and Mendez (8-4), and Biesemeyer and Morrs (8-3) were all winners.
