Missouri baseball tops Illinois

ST. LOUIS - Peter Fairbanks went a career-best eight innings, holding Illinois to just two runs as Missouri claimed a 5-2 victory against the Illini on Wednesday night at Busch Stadium.

Fairbanks only needed 84 pitches, throwing 57 strikes and striking out three batters.

Dylan Kelly was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Josh Lester was 2-for-4 with one RBI to help lead the Tigers at the plate.

Illinois fell to 21-15 on the year, while Missouri improves to 19-21.

The Tigers will take on No. 1 Florida this weekend in Gainesville.
