LU men move up in track and field rankings

The Lincoln women dropped two spots to No. 5 while the men moved up a spot to No. 12 in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II national rankings, released Tuesday.

The Blue Tiger women, who had been ranked No. 3 in the country the past two weeks, received 146.76 points in this week's poll.

Grand Valley State earned 219.26 points to maintain its No. 1 overall ranking, while Adams State, ranked No. 4 a week ago, is now No. 2 with 193.17 points. Johnson C. Smith took over the No. 3 spot with 165.59 points, while Saint Augustine's is ranked No. 4 with 151.45 points.

Lincoln is one of three women's programs ranked from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The league totaled 490.47 points, the second-most by any conference. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference is first with 502.74 points.

Central Missouri is ranked No. 8 after collecting 122.62 points, while Pittsburg State is No. 18 with 67.09 points.

The Lincoln men moved up one spot in the latest poll after receiving 78.94 points, which places the Blue Tigers one spot behind fellow MIAA program Pittsburg State (85.15 points).

The MIAA has four teams in the men's poll, tying the league with the GLIAC and the Lone Star Conference for the most-ranked teams in a single conference.

Central Missouri is ranked No. 19 with 54.07 points, while Emporia State is at No. 22 with 49.08 points.

Leading the poll is Saint Augustine's, which tallied 262.22 points. Adams State is No. 2 with 238.44 points, while Texas A&M-Kingsville (184.01), Ashland (177.01) and Chico State (125.43) round out the top five teams.

Both Lincoln programs will compete at the Drake Relays over the next three days.
