Your Opinion: Litterbugs show lack of respect

Dear Editor:

The litterbugs seem to have been taking over this area of the street the past few months as well as the guardrail that lines the 179 ramp that comes off of U.S. 50. The litterbugs toss out their empty sacks and other scattered items from their speeding cars and trucks. This has been noticed time and time again by this homeowner. It appears that individuals have no respect for the property of others.

This writer had stopped at her mailbox located at the bottom of her driveway to check the box for her mail and two pickup trucks were speeding one right in the back of the other at such top speed that if she had slipped or taken a backward step she would have been seriously hurt of even killed. Too many drivers disregard the speed limit signs. It is believed these two males were of the younger species and were performing remodeling work on a home once owned and lived in by previous owners who were friends of my late parents.

Because of all the trees and shrubbery that line the street side of my property it constantly is being strewed with discards from moving vehicles such as beer cans, bottles, small boxes, papers and the ends of cigarettes as well as wrappings from other objects. It is certain this takes place in country settings but this has increased two-fold here because of the subdivisions springing up in the vicinity along with the construction work taking place.

This homeowner has seen some quite strange things happening here but have been told of even stranger things taking place which really gives me the giggles. The man who told me this does not live anywhere in the vicinity where this took place. It seems the owner who lives close to or in a subdivision was seen chasing a local paper-stealer in the wee morning hours up the street in his pajamas because he witnessed the driver picking up his paper from the owner's driveway. How funny can we get? Or this might reveal how popular our local paper is.
