Helias to face Rockhurst on football field

The Helias Crusaders will have back-to-back shots at breaking off a piece of the Rock.

After squaring off with Rock Bridge in their annual football meeting in Week 7, the Crusaders have filled Week 8 of their schedule with a game against the Rockhurst Hawklets.

"Both of us had that week open and we were looking for a quality opponent," Helias coach Phil Pitts said Tuesday. "Rockhurst definitely fits the bill."

Another reason Helias scheduled the game is because the Missouri playoff schedule will change this fall. Instead of the Wednesday-Monday-Saturday schedule, playoff games are all scheduled for Friday nights.

"With the the postseason being spread out to just one game a week, we're OK with playing a challenge game that late in the season," Pitts said.

Rockhurst will be the third Class 6 team on Helias' schedule for the next two seasons, joining Rock Bridge and Hickman.

"When you come to Helias, you know you're going to play the best schedule in the state, that's just the nature of the beast," Pitts said. "Rockhurst is just an example of that."

The game will be played Friday, Oct. 10, at Adkins Stadium. Helias will travel to Kansas City in the 2015 season.

"We know the community is used to seeing Rockhurst when they play Jefferson City and we're glad we have a chance to play them," Pitts said.

Rockhurst will also play Webb City, which has defeated Helias in the past two Class 4 state championship games, in the 2014 and 2015 regular seasons.
