Your Opinion: Carson's message of life and hope

Dear Editor:

On Tuesday I attended the annual Vitae luncheon and heard Dr. Ben Carson speak. His uplifting message reverberated with illustrations of life and hope. His career is a testimony of hope that was realized through his skilled hands in the lives of pediatric patients and some neo-natal patients who had value simply because they were human beings.

Contrast that with the unspeakably sad story in Tuesday's newspaper about the woman in Utah who had killed six of her newborn children. It illustrates the direction our society is moving. Abortion was once illegal, then was declared legal, then subsidized, then partial-birth abortion reared its ugly head. Infanticide such as the case of the Utah woman is a very short step further.

Dr. Carson's mother selflessly sacrificed for the betterment of her children. Consider her joy to have seen his impact on the world. Contrast her devotion and the resulting reward of it with the pervasive liberal mindset that focuses not on the incredible potential in every human being (born or unborn), but rather on an obsession with self-determination even to the point of destroying one's own progeny.

It's sad to describe. For me, I'm on Ben Carson's side. I choose life and hope.
