Your Opinion: Story criticized for generalities

Dear Editor:

On April 9 an article titled "PSC looks for answers to unusual cases," by Bob Watson, appeared in the News Tribune. One comment of his caught my immediate attention, in which he stated, "A growing list of opponents - including businesses, local governments, and some consumer groups - is urging the PSC to ignore what they call Noranda's "rate shift" proposal."

My concern with this kind of reporting, is he stating generalities, rather than being factual. Name those businesses, consumers/government groups who oppose this proposal, and if you can't, then don't make these kind of statements. Give it validity. This has planted the seed to those who read the NT, that if all these people oppose this, then perhaps the MPSC is correct in all their findings.

Wrong.

It is my understanding that perhaps three entities have objected, and their objection was very low keyed, difficult to notice. This is far from a growing list and I wonder as it should with other consumers, what their agenda is.

Another energy intensive company, Walmart, is not opposed to the Noranda proposal. I would suspect Walmart ranks second in Missouri for energy consumption.

I would hope that the News Tribune would publish a correction or retraction to this statement of Mr. Watson.
