Eldon police make meth arrest, possible federal charges after foot chase

Officer Mike Atkinson of the Eldon Police Department conducted an investigation at 10:27 a.m. April 14 of a subject stemming from pending charges from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, according to a news release from Eldon Police Chief Rodney Fair.

Upon making contact, Atkinson located 43 grams of methamphetamine in the suspect's possession, along with drug paraphernalia. As Atkinson was making the arrest, the suspect fled on foot. After a brief chase for approximately four city blocks, the suspect was recaptured and transported to the Eldon Police Department. Due to the large amount of methamphetamine involved the Eldon Police Department is seeking federal charges on the suspect.

Atkinson was assisted in the foot chase by Fair and by off-duty MSHP officer Neil Atkinson. The suspect's name will not be released until formal charges are filed.
