Russellville FFA team moves on to state events

Seven teams and two individuals from the Russellville FFA Chapter will advance to the state convention events in Columbia April 24-25 after placing well at the District Career and Leadership Development Events recently in Warrensburg.

The chapter will have 28 members competing in contests, five proficiency award competitors, six state degree recipients and two FFA choir members at the state convention.

Also, the Russellville Chapter will receive a silver rating on the National Chapter Award.

The Russellville High School sent 49 chapter members to the district event, competing in forestry, agronomy, meats evaluation, dairy foods, agricultural mechanics, horse evaluation, dairy cattle evaluation, livestock evaluation, floriculture, prepared public speaking, FFA knowledge and parliamentary procedure.

The agronomy team of Taylor Young, Collin Maharas, Elizabeth Wyss and Jamie Porter placed first.

The horses and agriculture mechanics teams placed second; members were Madison Hoff, Ashley Kirkweg and Rachel Call, and Jake Kuda, Tanner Morrow, Gabe Raithel and Cole Henson, respectively.

Hailey Matthews placed third in the division one prepared public speaking.

And Wyss placed third in advanced prepared public speaking.

The parliamentary procedure team of Halie Dampf, Mikala Jungmeyer, Logan Thompson, Cory Jackson, Jordan Malzner and Madie Bungart placed fifth.

Dairy foods and forestry teams earned ninth place. Dairy members were Harley Waggoner, Chase Pistel, Samuel Schroeder and Ryland Johnson. Forestry members were Madisen Boyer, Hannah Michitsch, Chase Smith and Devin Koestner.

Natalie Beene, Mckendra Fischer, Baylee Watts and Cody Willingham earned 10th place as the FFA knowledge team.

And the livestock team placed 12th, with members Josh Bell, Alex M. Thompson and Clayton Thompson.

Individuals who placed in the top 10 of their respective contests were: Wyss, first place; Call, second place; Raithel third place, Porter fourth place; Young, Waggoner and Kuda, fifth place; Hoff sixth place; and Bethannee Plochberger, 10th place.
