Missouri high school senior commits suicide

WARRENSBURG, Mo. (AP) - Warrensburg police say an 18-year-old high school senior left campus and committed suicide after employees reported him in the school parking lot with a gun in his car.

Warrensburg High School was placed on lockdown Friday morning after employees reported seeing the student with the gun.

Police Chief Bruce Howey says shortly after the student left the school parking lot officers located the vehicle and ordered the driver to stop. Howey says while officers were waiting for backup, they heard a shot from inside the vehicle. They found the driver dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Warrensburg superintendent Scott Patrick says no shots were fired at the school and no one was injured.

Warrensburg is located about 60 miles southeast of Kansas City.
