Kircher now holds LU’s single-season homer lead

LIBERTY — Sam Kircher is at the top of the list.

Kircher broke the Lincoln softball team’s single-season home run record Wednesday, blasting her eighth home run of the season in the Blue Tigers’ 5-3 loss to William Jewell.

Kircher was tied for the single-season record with teammate Erin Sommerer, who set the mark last season with seven.

Kircher hit her record-breaking home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, capping the scoring in the game.

Kircher has been a bright spot for the Blue Tigers (3-30), hitting .345 with 17 RBI.

The junior shortstop has 10 more games to extend the mark, beginning with a doubleheader against Northwest Missouri at 3 p.m. today at Lincoln Field.
