Write-in candidate wins; Crocker elected Russellville mayor

A write-in candidate will fill the west ward alderman’s seat in Russellville, following Tuesday’s elections.

Jonathan Scott Freeman received five of the 10 write-in votes.

Larry Crocker, who took 67 percent of the votes for mayor, has filled the vacant west ward alderman seat for the last few months.

And Rodney Edwards will fill the east ward alderman seat, as the only candidate on the ballot.

Retired from the U.S. Air Force, Crocker has served as a past alderman and mayor pro-tem.

Ronnie Moore received 32 percent of the vote for mayor.

“I like it a lot and the people here are very nice,” Crocker said. “There are a lot of issues the city goes through and I find it all interesting.”

This will be Freeman’s first time elected. He decided to run as a write-in candidate after learning no one had signed up to represent his ward.

As a commercial and residential property owner and involved in the construction industry, Freeman said he has experience and connections that will help.

He also is pleased to have a voice in the decision process.
