Lincoln's Thompson honored in MIAA

After setting two of the country's top times at the Big Blue Classic over the weekend, Lincoln's Monique Thompson has been honored as the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

Thompson set two of the MIAA's best times at the Eastern Illinois University-hosted meet, winning the 800-meter run and finishing as the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run. In the 800, Thompson recorded the fifth-fastest time in the country, finishing ahead of 46 other runners to win with a provisional time of 2:10.73. In the 1,500, Thompson finished second with a provisional time of 4:33.55, the eighth-best in Division II. Both times currently lead the MIAA. The majority of the runners Thompson competed against were NCAA Division I athletes.

This marks the first athlete of the week honor for the Lincoln women's team during the 2014 outdoor track and field season and the second for Thompson in her Lincoln career. The sophomore distance runner was also recognized Feb. 25 after breaking two meet records at the DePauw Classic during the indoor season.
