Lincoln track wins nine events

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Lincoln women's track team won six events over the weekend at the Big Blue Classic at Eastern Illinois, while the men's team won three.

On the women's side, Tamara Keane was a two-time winner, sweeping both the 400-meter dash (55.31) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.59). In addition to Keane's victory in the dash, Donna-Lee Hylton was the runner-up (55.51) and Willomena Williams placed fourth (56.91).

Lincoln also excelled in the middle distance events, with Monique Thompson winning the 800-meter run (2:10.73) and taking second in the 1,500-meter run (4:33.55). In the former event, Jhevere Hall was the runner-up, clocking in at 2:10.93. In the 1,500, Hall finished third in 4:35.20.

Yanique Ellington won the 200-meter dash, taking first with a time of 24.22. Ellington also placed second in the 100-meter dash, timing in at 11.71. The Blue Tigers also swept the relay events, with the 4x100-meter squad emerging victorious in 46.92 and the 4x400 team finishing first in 3:43.56.

Ladonna Richards had Lincoln's next-best finish in a track event, taking third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.01. Juneille Barker placed fourth after finishing in 14.05.

Jonelle Campbell led Lincoln in the field events, taking third in the triple jump at 11.82m. Daniele Newman placed fourth in the triple jump (11.78m).

On the men's side, Romone Hill won the 100, finishing with a time of 10.47. Hill also led the Blue Tigers in the 200, taking fourth in 21.76, and teamed with Romel Lewis, Wesley Best and Michael Ashley to win the 4x100-meter relay in 40.59. Lewis picked up Lincoln's other victory of the day, taking the 400-meter hurdles after clocking in at 53.81.

Lincoln's next-best finish came in the 4x400-meter relay, where the team of Jermaine Blake, Roger Blake, Stallone Watson and Lewis placed second in 3:14.67.

Up next for the Blue Tigers are the Missouri Relays, which will be hosted by the University of Missouri this Friday and Saturday.
