Lady Jays, Lady Crusaders claim soccer spots

In first prep girls soccer poll

There's plenty of soccer success to go around in Jefferson City.

Both the Jefferson City Lady Jays and Helias Lady Crusaders find themselves in the first state soccer poll of the 2014 season released Friday by the Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Jefferson City, coming off a quarterfinal appearance in 2013, is ranked fifth in Class 3 with 36 points.

The Lady Jays boast a 4-1-1 record in the early stages of the season heading into today's game against Incarnate Word, ranked No. 3 in Class 2, in St. Louis. St. Joseph's Academy is ranked first in Class 3 with 80 points, just ahead of St. Teresa's Academy.

Helias, fresh off a Class 2 state runner-up finish, is ranked sixth in Class 2 with 55 points. The Lady Crusaders, scheduled to play today at Quincy, Ill., are 2-1 on the young season.

Visitation Academy is ranked first with 105 points, while defending state and national champion St. Dominic is ranked second with 93 points.

St. Pius X: Festus is No. 1 in Class 1.
