Boosters staging fundraiser for Russellville athletes

RUSSELLVILLE, Mo. - A new fundraiser hopes to promote and provide community support for Cole County R-1 Schools athletic programs.

The Russellville Athletic Booster Club Blue & White Paddle Party will begin at 6 p.m. today in the Russellville High School gym. The first auction item will be put up at 7 p.m.

"We wanted to do a fundraiser that was something different," Branson said.

Funds raised will help the club with its ongoing assistance, such as purchasing sports-related equipment, promoting community involvement and fostering good sportsmanship, said organizer Amy Branson.

The club supports all programs, including basketball, baseball, cheerleading, cross county, golf, softball, track and volleyball.

In the past, the club has purchased warmup uniforms and gym bags, track program equipment, recognition patches for athletes, hosting an awards banquet following each sports season, and other team equipment.

When the school learned it would be hosting the district basketball tournament two years ago, the booster club enlisted community support to provide perimeter lighting around the basketball goals.

Donations a year ago enhanced the school's weight room, allowing use by everyone. And the school added physical education classes to its schedule.

This fall, they purchased state champion T-shirts to recognize the boys and girls cross country teams wins.

The club actively looks and listens for projects they can take on to further support the athletic programs, Branson said.

"They are able to provide support to all of our athletic programs and student-athletes to fill the gap where the school might need additional assistance to help our teams and student-athletes stay successful," said Athletic Director Lucas Branson.

On the horizon, the club intends to purchase kitchen appliances, equipment and supplies for the track concession stand, currently under construction.

"The Russellville Athletic Booster Club is anxious to see the completion of the new track concession stand and restrooms," Branson said.
