Hayes helps Columbia College to sweep

COLUMBIA - Marli Hayes was 3-for-4 and drove in five runs as Columbia College swept an America Midwest Conference doubleheader against No. 17 Park University, 4-3, 10-2, on Tuesday at Antimi Black Field.

Hayes (Jefferson City High School) connected with a two-run home run in each game for the Cougars, who improved to 15-10 overall and 7-1 in the AMC.

Kristin Eiken (Blair Oaks High School) hit a walk-off single with one out in the bottom of the seventh to lead Columbia past Park in Game 1.

Eiken had two hits, including a two-run home run in the nightcap, and drove in three runs to help pace the Cougars. Whitni Howell (Jefferson City High School) also added two hits and two RBI.

Taylor Richter (Blair Oaks High School) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in five innings to earn the complete-game victory in the nightcap.

Paxton Welch (Helias High School) shut the door in the opener, allowing one hit and striking out two in two innings of relief.

Park fell to 24-6 overall and 10-2 in conference play.

Columbia will host conference foe Missouri Baptist University on Friday. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
