Jefferson City early morning shooting

A 35-year-old man apparently shot and killed himself early this morning after first arguing with his wife and threatening her with a shotgun.

Police have not released the name of the deceased.

At 2 a.m. Tuesday, the Jefferson City Police Department (JCPD) received a 911 call from a female residing in the 1700 block of Bunker Hill Road who said her husband threatened her with a firearm. According to the caller, her husband began arguing with her and during that argument went to get a shotgun, which he ended up pointing at her.

The caller was able to leave the residence and call 911, and officers responded to the scene. After exiting the home, the caller claimed she heard a shot from within the home.

Once the caller was in a safe location, police set up a perimeter and SWAT was called to the scene, along with the Crisis Negotiation Team. Information was obtained that the suspect, a 35-year-old Jefferson City male, was the only person in the residence, and attempts were made to call into the residence to make contact with him.

After several further telephone attempts to contact him were unsuccessful, JCPD SWAT entered and cleared the residence and found the suspect, who appeared to have suffered a self-inflicted fatal shotgun wound.

Jefferson City police detectives were called to the scene to investigate, and that investigation is continuing.
