Area archers compete

OSAGE BEACH - Several area competitors took part in the National Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Tan-Tar-A Resort.

Both teams from Helias qualified for the national tournament that will be held May 8-10 in Louisville, Ky. Sarcoxie won the 15-team event with a score of 3396, Helias Team 1 was second at 3281 and Helias Team 2 was 13th at 3033.

The local teams placing in the top 10 of the middle schools were Immaculate Conception (ninth, 3074) and St. Peter's (10th, 3065) and those in the top of of the elementary schools were St. Joseph Cathedral (third, 2932) and St. Thomas the Apostle (fourth, 2926).

The individual top-10 finishers were:

• High School - Zac Hughes, Helias, ninth in boys, 285.

• Middle School - Joe Wilder, St. Peter's, first in boys, 295.

• Elementary School - Luke Schroeder, St. Thomas the Apostle, first in boys, 273; Morgan Luebbering, St. Thomas the Apostle, fourth in girls, 265; Alex Loethen, Immaculate Conception, ninth in boys, 264; Natalie Schulp, St. Joseph Cathedral, ninth in girls, 259; Benjamin Schroeder, St. Thomas the Apostle, 10th in boys, 263.
