Jays, Lady Jays finish in Top 10; Fatima claims pair of titles

ST. LOUIS — Jefferson City claimed a pair of top-10 team finishes in Class 4, while Fatima earned two team titles Saturday at the Hancock Invitational.

The Jays finished sixth in an 18-team field with 160 points. West Plains won with 28 points, Lafayette was second with 58 and Festus took third with 108.

Eli Jacobs paced the Jays with a 19th-place finish (17:00.82).

The Lady Jays finished seventh in a 21-team field with 181 points. Ste. Genevieve topped the field with 63 points, Eureka was next with 98 and Lafayette finished third with 151.

Emily Deeken starred for the Lady Jays with a 12th-place finish (20:07.05).

The Fatima Comets and Lady Comets, meanwhile, topped their respective fields in the Class 1-2 races.

The Comets finished with 34 points to coast past the 16-team field. Russellville was second with 110 points and Arcadia Valley took third with 131.

Fatima featured five runners in the top 15, led by overall winner Tom Zeilman, who finished in 17:32.73. Ross Schanzmeyer (fourth, 17:38.36), Hunter Hennier (sixth, 17:50.83), Cody Huhn (10th, 18:20.20) and Caleb Schroeder (13th, 18:35.80) all finished in that top tier.

Russellville counted one runner among the top-15 finishers: Alex M. Thompson (fifth, 17:43.54).

The Lady Comets topped the 10-team field with 36 points. Herculaneum was second with 65 points, Arcadia Valley was third with 124 and Russellville placed fourth with 129.

Fatima featured five runners in the top 15, including Riley Caminiti (second, 21:21.89), Madison Day (fourth, 21:49.40), Alexis Peters (fifth, 21:56.36), Abby Sturtz (11th, 22:33.42) and Anna Massman (14th, 22:56.77).

Russellville had one such runner: Grace Young (sixth, 22:01.90).
