Jefferson City sales tax receipts are improving, narrowing the gap between projections and actual collections.

At the Finance Committee meeting Tuesday, Interim Finance Director Bill Betts presented the latest financial reports for the city. September receipts show the 1 percent general sales tax came in $27,167 above projection, but the year to date total shows a shortfall for the year of $3,867.

The half-cent capital improvement sales tax also came in above projections, with the September receipts showing collections exceeded projections by $12,294. The total shortfall for the year to date is now $21,031.

"Everything's looking fairly good," Betts said.

The half-cent parks sales tax also came in above projections, with September receipts showing the tax came in $39,005 above projections and the year to date total showing an overage of $12,636.

Lodging tax collections are continuing to come in strong, with July collections coming in at $52,277 for the city's fund for a proposed conference center. The fund, which has averaged a monthly collection of $48,842, has roughly $1.31 million in it so far.
