FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - Lee Nguyen got a second chance on a penalty kick and converted it in the 83rd minute to help the New England Revolution keep their MLS playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 victory over D.C. United on Saturday night.

New England (11-11-7) snapped a three-match (0-2-1) winless streak when Nguyen converted his second penalty kick after being tripped in the penalty box by Lewis Neal.

Nguyen was taken down by D.C. United's Dejan Jakovic in the 55th minute, but D.C. United goalie Bill Hamid dove right to stop the shot.

D.C. United (3-20-6) had its winless streak extended to seven matches (0-5-2). It took the lead in the 11th minute on an own goal by New England defender Scott Caldwell.

The Revolution tied it in the 58th minute when Diego Fagundez scored his team-best 11th goal.

CREW 3, FIRE 0

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Dominic Oduro scored in the first half, Federico Higuain converted a penalty kick to in the second half and Columbus cruised to victory over short-handed Chicago.

Oduro took a ball from Jairo Arrieta on the right side of the box in the 15th minute and fired into the far corner for his team-best 11th goal. The Fire (11-12-6) went down a man in the 29th minute when Bakary Soumare was ejected for his challenge of Arrieta just outside the penalty area.

Arrieta was tackled by goalkeeper Sean Johnson in the 70th minute and Higuain converted from the spot. Bernardo Anor made it 3-0 in the 76th as the Crew (11-14-5) won their second straight win.

DYNAMO 5, CHIVAS USA 1

HOUSTON (AP) - Giles Barnes and Boniek Garcia scored two goals apiece and Houston solidified its hold on the fourth place in the East with a victory over Chivas USA.

Barnes recorded his second two-goal game of the season, and Garcia scored his first goals this year to give Houston (12-10-7) back-to-back wins for the first time since July 6 and 13. Will Bruin also scored for Houston.

Eric Avila scored for Chivas (6-16-8), which is winless in 13 straight road games (0-11-2).

The Dynamo recorded their season high in goals to solidify while moving two points behind third-place Montreal. Chivas USA was officially eliminated last weekend.

GALAXY 1, SOUNDERS 1

CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Seattle's Eddie Johnson and Los Angele's Juninho traded first-half goals and the Western Conference leaders settled for a draw.

Johnson headed home a corner kick to give Seattle a 25th-minute lead, and Juninho scored on a 24-yard free kick in first-half stoppage time.

Both teams were without their U.S. national team stars. Galaxy forward Landon Donovan sprained his ankle sustained last weekend and Sounders forward Clint Dempsey strained a calf in training this week.

Johnson scored on an open header from about 8 yards, losing Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez as he started his run at the top of the box to get to Mauro Rosales' serve.

Juninho tallied with the final touch of the first half, bending a free kick from just above the semicircle inside the left post.

SPORTING 2, TORONTO FC 1

TORONTO (AP) - C.J. Sapong scored twice and Kansas City extended Toronto's winless streak to eight consecutive games.

Kansas City's win propelled it to a tie atop the Eastern Conference standings with the New York Red Bulls, who play FC Dallas on Sunday.

Darel Russell scored for Toronto in a rain-drenched affair at BMO Field that ended with ejections of Toronto head coach Ryan Nelsen and assistant Fran O'Leary in the final minute. Toronto (4-14-12) hasn't won since Aug. 4 at New England.

Sapong scored for Kansas City (14-9-6) in the 18th minute on a header past Toronto goalkeeper Joe Bendik.

Russell answered in the 38th minute to pull Toronto even, but Sapong added another header in the 53rd to double his season goal total.

EARTHQUAKES 2, REAL SALT LAKE 1

SANDY, Utah (AP) - Steven Lenhart scored two goals in a four-minute span of the first half to lead San Jose over Real Salt Lake.

The Earthquakes' second victory in 15 road games this season moved them within three points of a playoff spot with four games remaining in Major League Soccer's regular season.

Real Salt Lake got a goal from Javier Morales in the 19th minute. It was his eighth of the season and came during a flurry of scoring on an otherwise quiet night at the goal.

Real Salt Lake remained tied for second place behind Seattle in the chase for the Supporter's Shield, awarded to the top team in the regular season.

WHITECAPS 3, IMPACT

MONTREAL (AP) - Camilo Sanvezzo scored two second-half goals to lead Vancouver to a victory over Montreal that kept its playoff hopes alive.

Kenny Miller scored from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute for the Whitecaps (11-10-8), who ended a five-game winless run and picked up only their second victory in 10 games.

It was the second 3-0 loss in a row for the Impact, who lost a CONCACAF Champions League match Tuesday night in San Jose by the same score.
