Lady Jays tennis sweeps

COLUMBIA - Jefferson City swept a pair of matches at the Columbia Duals on Friday.

The Lady Jays topped Blue Springs South and Belleville (Ill.) East by the same 5-4 margin.

Jefferson City opened with Blue Springs South. Singles winners were Kelly Raithel (8-1), Paige Smith (8-2) and Eden Hoogveld (8-2). Kirsten Schmidt (4-8), Athira Nambiar (4-8) and Haley Snellen (5-8) dropped their matches.

Doubles winners were Smith and Hoogveld (8-0) and Nambiar and Snellen (8-3). The loss came via injury default.

The Lady Jays then faced Belleville East. Singles winners were Smith (8-3), Hoogveld (8-1), Nambiar (9-8, 8-6 tiebreaker) and Snellen (8-4). Raithel fell 2-8.

Raithel and Snellen won 8-3 in doubles while Hoogveld and Smith lost 4-8. Injury defaults caused a loss in both singles and doubles for the Lady Jays.

Jefferson City (11-1) hosts Camdenton on Thursday.
