There was no carryover effect for the Jefferson City softball team Friday.
A day after wasting chance after chance in a 5-3 loss to Blair Oaks, the Lady Jays played a nearly flawless game from start to finish to down Rolla 9-0 at the American Legion Sports Complex.
"Obviously you want to see that," Jefferson City head coach Lisa Dey said of her team's effort.
From the field to the plate to the pitcher's circle, Jefferson City didn't resemble the team from Thursday night.
Krista Brickey allowed just four hits in seven innings while striking out three. The Lady Bulldogs didn't have multiple baserunners in the same inning until the seventh. That was erased when Katie Tambke caught a sharp liner in center and doubled-off the runner at second base to end the game.
"They are going to hit the ball against her, there's no doubt and that's where the defense has to be ready," Dey said. "When she does her job on the mound, throwing strikes and not walking people, I feel pretty confident."
The Lady Jays took a 2-0 lead in the third on RBI singles from Dakota Newton and Alyson Metz.
They blew it open with three runs in the fifth thanks to RBI doubles from Metz and Emily Williams.
Brooke Rozier capped off the offensive outburst with a grand slam to left field in the sixth inning to put the game away. The left fielder went back on the ball and appeared as though she was going to catch it, but ran out of room at the end.
"When she's in the batter's box she seems like she's pretty calm," Dey said of Rozier. "I think that's huge with just being relaxed. I've seen a lot of kids who go in the batter's box if they haven't been hitting the way they are wanting to hit, then they get tense and they start pressing and they swing at bad pitches and so forth.
"When she gets in the batter's box, she's going to get her cuts. When she swings, she swings the bat hard."
Rolla (9-6) starter Jade DeShurley allowed six earned runs.
"The third inning it started to get a little bit better," Dey said. "In situations ... I feel like we could hit the ball against her."
Dakota Newton and Taylor Dey had two hits each. Dey scored three runs as the Lady Jays finished with nine hits. But maybe more importantly after Thursday night, there were no errors for the Lady Jays.
Jefferson City (10-2) is back in action Monday at home against Smith-Cotton. That wraps up a stretch of 10 straight games played in the Capital City.
