Two Jefferson City shops in same building closing

Two Jefferson City businesses housed in the same building - Good & Perfect Gifts and Central Missouri Athletics - are closing, and the owner of the businesses is looking to sell the building.

Jera Lincoln and her husband own the businesses and the building, but decided to close the local businesses because they recently moved from Eldon to Springfield.

She said she'll keep the Good & Perfect Gifts location open in Eldon and is looking to add to that business. They plan to start selling homemade pie by the slice and say they'll expand their operating hours after the new year to be open six days a week.

The local Good & Perfect location was doing well financially, she said.

"If we lived in Jefferson City, I wouldn't dream of closing this store," Lincoln said. "It wouldn't have entered into my mind."

The store started a liquidation sale last week, and will stay open until the merchandise is sold.

The store sells baby gifts, high-end jewelry, moderately-priced jewelry, collectibles, ladies accessories, ladies clothing, candles, bath and body products, shoes and garden decor among other things.

"If we don't have it, you don't need it," Lincoln quipped.

The building at 748 W. Stadium Blvd. will be for sale, she said, adding that she's already had interest from potential buyers.

Central Missouri Athletics (CMA) had downsized over the past few years with the rise of national sports store chains such as MC Sports and Dick's Sporting Goods.

"The athletic goods business has been changing over the last 10 years," Lincoln said.

"A lot of mom-and-pop athletic businesses across the country have been closing and selling to bigger companies.

"It's hard to compete with the chain stores," she added.

Customers wanting to order athletic apparel still will be able to do so through The Good & Perfect location in Eldon, she said.
