New Bloomfield completes street projects

NEW BLOOMFIELD - A contractor payment authorized Thursday night by the New Bloomfield Board of Aldermen completed action on a $365,000 street improvement project this summer in the city.

The change order involved adding extra shoulder work on several city streets.

The contractor for the New Bloomfield project was Higgins Asphalt Paving Co. of Tipton. After receiving five change orders in the original bid, the firm received a final change-order payment of $10,996 authorized Thursday night. That brings total payments to the firm of $284,944 from the city for the street overlay and stormwater project improvements.

Streets receiving asphalt overlay and related stormwater improvements were: Chevy Chase Lane, Elm Street, Mulberry Street, Cedar Street, Elmwood Circle, Poplar Street, Park Street, Chestnut Street, Maple Street, Willow Drive, Oak Street, Country Club Drive and Joshua Street.

Some culvert work also was part of the street improvement project.

The project was financed by a 10-year, $365,000 general obligation tax bond approved by New Bloomfield voters in 2012.

New Bloomfield City Clerk Terra Guittar said when other project expenses, including design and legal fees, nearly all of the $365,000 in bonds authorized by the voters will be used to complete the project.

In other action, the board agreed to a new contract for city auditing services.

The city's annual audit will now be performed by the auditing firm of Gerding, Korte & Chittwood of Boonville.

The firm was the low bidder for all annual city auditing services with a bid of "not to exceed $10,000."

The firm that had been performed New Bloomfield's city auditing services, Evers & Company of Jefferson City, had entered a bid this year offering auditing services for "a range of $10,000 to $13,000."
