Helias claims tennis title at Rock Bridge Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The day couldn’t have gone any better for the Helias Lady Crusaders.

Helias won the Rock Bridge Invitational on Wednesday, a tournament that included Rock Bridge, Lafayette and Park Hill.

Helias opened with Rock Bridge.

In singles action, Ashley Dowden opened with a 5-4 (7-4 tiebreaker), 4-0 victory. In doubles, Casey Clogston and Abbey Verslues won 4-1, 4-1, and Becca Shelton and Lauren Highfill won 5-3, 4-1.

The Lady Crusaders then took on Lafayette.

In singles action, Dowden won 4-0, 4-1, and Shelton won 4-2, 4-0. In doubles, Verslues and Mary Conley won 4-2, 4-0 and Clogston and Highfill won 4-0, 4-0.

Helias finished with Park Hill.

In singles action, Dowden won 4-0, 4-1, and Conley won 4-1, 4-0. In doubles, Verslues and Clogston won 4-2, 4-2, and Highfill and Shelton won 4-1, 4-0.

In JV play, Abby Bullock won a singles match against Rock Bridge 4-1. Megan Villanueva defeated a Lady Bruin 4-0.

Helias hosts Marshall on Tuesday.
