A Centertown man was killed and a woman was injured in a one-car accident at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday on Missouri 87, north of Abbott Road, in Miller County.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol report, a 1999 Ford Taurus, driven northbound by Alexander C. Benke, 21, failed to negotiate a curve, went off the left side of the road, struck a mailbox and then returned to the road. The vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned.
Benke was pronounced dead at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. A passenger, Juliann Rockers, 83, was taken to St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City.
The patrol reports Benke was not wearing a seat belt; Rockers was wearing a seat belt.
