Touring couple to perform at Scene One

Knighthorse Theatre Company was organized in 2003 by Ty and Amy Lemerande. They have toured in 25 states and six countries performing in schools, communities, and for any groups that want to see their performance.

Ty Lemerande said “Shakespeare On Demand” is really improvisation at each performance. At the beginning of the show the audience will call out the plays they would like to see. He and his wife then take a few minutes to plot the evening and then they perform.

They will perform the show in Jefferson City at Scene One this coming weekend.

The couple now has two children and Lemerande said they want to continue doing this as long as they can. They take the children on tour with them and his 4-year old son comes on stage at the end of performances to close for them.

When the company comes into a community they try to perform as many places as they can. In Jefferson City they are spending one day at Jefferson City High School to do workshops and relate their love of Shakespeare to the students. They will perform in Memorial Park for homeschooled children and also performed a preview show at Missouri River Regional Library.

Scene One is using the company’s performance of “Hamlet” and “Shakespeare on Demand” as a fundraiser for the theater. Money raised will help defray costs of the other performances for Scene One for the season.

For the first time in its history, Scene One is doing a matinee performance, at the request of the Lemerandes.

For a more local connection, Wegman said that The Little Theatre of Jefferson City, which is doing “I Hate Hamlet” in October, will be in the lobby at each performance to talk about their Shakespeare experience and how it might relate to Knighthorse.

“Our love of Shakespeare and our desire to spread this love with communities and groups keeps us going. Hopefully we will be able to do this for as long as we have the desire,” Ty Lemerande said.
