SPRINGFIELD - Just a few hours before kicking off the Springfield Kickapoo Invitational, the Kickapoo Lady Chiefs and Jefferson City Lady Jays decided to get in a little extra work.
Playing just a single set in both singles and doubles, the Lady Jays got the better of play and posted a 6-3 win Thursday.
In singles, the Lady Jays got wins from Kelly Raithel (6-2), Paige Smith (7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker), Kirsten Schmidt (6-1) and Athira Nambiar (6-0).
Falling in singles for Jefferson City were Eden Hoogveld (6-3) and Haley Snellen (7-5).
In doubles, Smith and Hoogveld won 6-2 and Raithel and Schmidt won 6-2. Nambiar and Snellen lost 6-2.
