JC Council to hear conference center findings
Thursday, September 5, 2013
The Jefferson City Council will hold a special meeting tonight to hear a presentation from conference center facilitator Charles Johnson, who is expected to go over his findings from a $17,000 market study authorized by the council in July.
The meeting, to be held at 5:30 p.m. tonight at City Hall, will have a presentation on the study in open session, with a closed session following for discussion of sealed bids, contracts and related documents.
In early June, two proposals were unveiled for the city’s conference center project: one from Farmer Holding Company and one from the Ehrhardt Hospitality Group. Both developers proposed smaller conference centers than the City Council had requested and neither had ruled out the potential need for an operating subsidy.
In a closed session July 8, the council approved an expenditure of no more than $17, 000 for a contract to create a conference center market study.
The current timeline, which has been repeatedly extended, has the council holding public hearings in mid-September and a council decision on the proposals in mid-October.
