37th Extension Fall Festival scheduled for Saturday

The 37th annual Cole County Extension Fall Festival is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jaycees Fairgrounds and with nearly 160 vendors, the event offers something for everyone.

"You'll see jewelers, people selling handbags, dolls, accessories, wood furniture," said Jane Kempker, administrative assistant for the Cole County Extension Center. "But, it's like every year, they kind of put a new twist on it."

Kempker has organized the festival for 14 years, and said one of the more unique vendors this year is a man who carves crochet hooks out of wood.

The event is so popular, Kempker said vendors are still calling her trying to get a space at the festival, even though the event is full.

Kempker said she looks forward to the festival every year.

"I love seeing all of the people come in," she said. "People are just so creative."

She said the festival is a great place to buy Christmas gifts because a lot of the items cannot be found anywhere else.

"It's also a great opportunity to support local vendors," Kempker said. "It's kind of nice to support local business."

Admission to the Fall Festival is $2 for ages 13 and over.

"The gate fees and fees for the vendors help support our (Cole County Extension) programs," Kempker said.
