Games played Oct. 27, 2013

HARRISON, N.J. (AP) - Peguy Luyindula had three assists and the New York Red Bulls beat the Chicago Fire 5-2 on Sunday to finish with Major League Soccer's best record.

Ibrahim Sekagya scored early in the second half to help the Red Bulls (17-9-8) get to 59 points for the regular season, lifting them over Sporting KC, which had 58 points. Real Salt Lake led the Western Division with 56 points.

It's the first Supporters' Shield for the Red Bulls, who will carry an eight-game unbeaten streak into the playoffs. They also secured a spot in next season's CONCACAF Champions League.

Sekagya's second goal of the season made it 2-1 in the 49th minute, and Lloyd Sam scored seven minutes later for a 3-1 Red Bulls lead. Reserve Eric Alexander converted a breakaway chance in the 77th minute on a through pass from Luyindula.

Chicago (14-13-7) took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute on Mike Magee's 21st goal of the season. Quincy Amarikwa scored in the 90th minute for the Fire.

GALAXY 1, SOUNDERS 1

SEATTLE (AP) - Clint Dempsey scored in the 30th minute for Seattle in his ninth game back in Major League Soccer, and Robbie Keane's half-volley late in the second half gave Los Angeles a 1-1 draw in the MLS regular-season finale.

Dempsey's goal off a cross from Lamar Neagle gave Seattle (15-12-7) a chance at finishing third in the Western Conference, but Keane's goal in the 78th minute in front of another massive crowd of 66,218 changed the entire playoff picture.

Keane's goal gave the Galaxy (15-11-8) third place in the final standings. Los Angeles will face Real Salt Lake in the two-leg conference semifinals. Seattle will now host Colorado in the play-in round on Wednesday, with the winner getting Portland in the conference semifinals.

WHITECAPS 3, RAPIDS 0

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Camilo Sanvezzo scored three times to give him an MLS-best 22 goals, and Vancouver closed out its season with a victory.

It was a bittersweet finale for Sanvezzo and the Whitecaps (13-12-9), who were eliminated from postseason contention when they lost 3-2 at Colorado (14-11-9) on Oct. 19. Last season, the Whitecaps became the first Canadian team to make the MLS playoffs.

Colorado will visit Seattle in the play-in round on Wednesday, with the winner getting Portland in the conference semifinals.

After his first goal, Sanvezzo presented the ball to veteran Whitecaps defender Young-Pyo Lee. The match at B.C. Place Stadium marked the final game for the 36-year-old South Korean, who participated in three World Cups and had a long club career in Asia and Europe before joining Vancouver in 2011.

Lee was removed in stoppage time to a rousing ovation from fans and other players.

REVOLUTION 1, CREW 0

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Juan Agudelo scored midway through the first half to help New England qualify for the postseason for the first time since 2009.

The Revolution (14-11-9) needed to win their regular-season finale because Houston defeated D.C. United earlier in the day to also reach 51 points. New England moved from sixth in the Eastern Conference, one spot out of the playoffs, to third because it owns the tiebreaker against Houston.

New England finished the season with a 4-0-2 stretch and will take on Sporting Kansas City in the first round of the playoffs next weekend.

Agudelo completed a crafty give-and-go with Lee Nguyen on the right side of the box and put away his ninth goal from 12 yards in the 28th minute.

The Crew (12-17-5) dropped their second straight game.

DYNAMO 2, UNITED 1

WASHINGTON (AP) - Boniek Garcia and Giles Barnes scored in the first half, and Houston beat D.C. United 2-1 to wrap up a playoff spot for the third straight season.

The Dynamo (14-11-9) are the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference and will host Montreal in the knockout match on Wednesday or Thursday.

D.C. United (3-24-7) was winless in its final 12 games and set the MLS record for fewest victories in a season, breaking the previous mark of four set by Tampa Bay in 2001 and matched by Chivas USA in 2005.

Garcia scored his third goal of the season, converting a penalty kick in the 11th minute.

United tied it in the 27th minute when Kyle Porter headed home Chris Pontius' cross at the far post right. It was Porter's third goal of the season, tying him for the team high.

Houston pulled ahead in the 39th minute when Barnes flicked home a header on a corner kick. Barnes finished the season with a team-high nine goals.
