One hurt in Highway Patrol helicopter crash

One person had minor injuries after a Missouri Highway Patrol helicopter crashed Saturday afternoon in Callaway County.

Patrol reports show the crash occurred around 1 p.m., a mile southeast of the Jefferson City Airport.

Pilot Michael Hargus and his co-pilot, Jeff Noack, both of Jefferson City, were on a training flight when they experienced engine failure.

The pilots conducted an emergency landing in an open field.

Hargus had no injuries and Noack had minor injuries, but the patrol report showed he did not need medical treatment.

The FAA and NTSB were notified and the helicopter was removed to the highway patrol hanger at the airport.

The estimated amount of damage to the helicopter was unknown.
