Your Opinion: Credit in TV dispute
Thursday, October 24, 2013
I had to listen to Tigers football on the radio Saturday. Direct TV (DTV) is conflicted and negotiating with Channel 17. Channel 17 was the local channel carrying the ABC/ESPN broadcasts of MU football.
DTV has blacked them out. I tried other options, including going on line and then calling DTV. (They had the UMKC logo on line in place of the MU Tigers logo (geez!) on their website.) A lady told me they could give me $5 credit but she didn’t seem to have a clue as to what I was complaining about.
I asked to talk to someone with authority and was transferred. But that person had to spend a bunch of time getting up to snuff as well. She gave me $20 in credit. Still not adequate as far as I was concerned. But of course I took it. Not much else I could do.
I also went online to find Channel 17’s phone number but could not find it on their site. Hummm!
Bottom line: I thought I had a contract with DTV to furnish me local programming but it seems they can break that promise at will.
I am encourageing all other affected parties to claim their $20 credit, seek publicity, help find out what’s going on with the negotiations, and pass this on so we DTV customers can watch the Tigers play.
