Local man killed in Miller County crash

One Jefferson City resident was killed and three were injured in a two-vehicle wreck Saturday evening in Miller County.

Maria G. Martinez, 22, was taken to Capital Region Medical Center, then flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia before being pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Injured were Jefferson City residents Karla G. Gonzales, 2, Jorge L. Guevara, 25, and Luis A. Narvaez, 42.

Gonzales was wearing a safety device and was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Columibia. Guevara was not wearing a seat belt. Narvaez was wearing a seat belt. Both were taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred about 5:39 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Huayang Wang, 23, Columbia, was parked on the shoulder of westbound U.S. 54 when a vehicle driven by Narvaez struck the rear of Wang's vehicle.

Wang was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

This is the patrol's 33rd fatality of the year in Troop F.

Bland resident Brian R. Tyree, 31, was moderately injured in a one-vehicle wreck early Sunday morning in Gasconade County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said Tyree was southbound on Route A at Vanentine Ford Road at about 3:50 a.m. His vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck a rock bluff and overturned down a steep embankment.

He was not wearing a seat belt, and was life-flighted to Mercy Hospital in Creve Couer.
