In a recent opinion submitted, Steven Brown proclaims that the GOP is attempting to save America via the shutdown.
In his opinion he rationalizes a government shutdown by comparing it to local speed limit laws that have been changed over the years. Yes, the speed limit laws have been changed.
However later in the article he proclaims that the major share of federal aid is going to Democrat states as a direct result of liberal policies such as welfare and unions in the major cities. It is apparent he did not do much research before submitting his opinion because he is totally wrong.
According to the tax foundation the top ten list of states that take the most federal aid: New Mexico; Mississippi; Alaska; Louisiana; West Virginia; North Dakota; Alabama; Arkansas; Kentucky; Montana. Poverty plays a huge role for the southern states however farm subsidies, Indian reservations and national parks are other key factors in addition to some states having smaller populations and fewer people paying in to the system.
I’m not trying win over any readers with this post or change their political views. I would like it to serve as an example to others posting in the opinion page to please check your facts before spouting a bunch of nonsense.
