Your Opinion: History and civil disorder

Dear Editor:

Our country should have a plan to control civil disorder that might result from economic, natural and nuclear disasters. The alternative is anarchy, which would be preferable to the Montana Militia or an urban street gang.

When Germany in the 1930s could not form a government after countless attempts and riots in Berlin with casualties estimated as high as 50,000, the roadblock Hitler's minority party feared the most was the army, a notoriously conservative group.

The German people felt safe as long as the army was around. Hitler planted a streetwalker in Field Marshal Blomberg's office and after he married her Adolf demanded and got Blombergs resignation. (No her name was not Lewinsky.)

Then he accused General Schleicher who had even been prime minister of homosexuality. That did not work so he had Schleicher assassinated.

Hitler then threatened President Hindenburg with scandal over his son Otto's inheritance taxes and Hindenburg's support of a bill to aid financially strapped Junkers mostly in East Prussia.

We trust our armed forces with our children and nuclear weapons. There are two other groups that are never given credit for being part of our checks and balances - the FBI and the CIA.

It is my personal opinion that when adventuresome types like Gordon Liddy and Haldeman and company were urging Nixon and his cohort the attorney general to take complete control that J. Edgar Hoover's refusal to join in persuaded the very intelligent Nixon to throw in the towel.
