St. Elizabeth falls in softball quarterfinals

ST. ELIZABETH, Mo. - St. Elizabeth made it farther than just about anybody could have expected. The Lady Hornets' season came to an end with a 9-7 loss to New Franklin in a Class 1 state quarterfinal game Saturday.

"I couldn't have asked for more from these girls," St. Elizabeth coach Peggy Wieberg said. "A rebuilding year, everybody counted us out. We showed what we're made of. I'm so proud of them. I wouldn't trade them for anybody."

Emma Kemna went 2-for-3 with four RBI, including a two-run home run, and two runs scored.

Savannah Stiles went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Megan Kemna went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, Sarah Heckemeyer went 2-for-4 and Taylor Helton had a hit and an RBI.

Regan Wilde took the loss, striking out six and walking five.

St. Elizabeth ends its season at 17-9.
