Homeless man charged with assault

A charge of misdemeanor assault was filed Friday against a homeless man in connection with a robbery investigation from earlier this week in Jefferson City.

Antony Gossett, 26, was arrested Thursday after police had been looking for him after a reported robbery Tuesday in the 2500 block of Scenic Drive.

Court documents show the victim and Gossett had engaged in sexual activity and Gossett had asked for $100 after he had put his clothes back on.

The victim did not have $100, and Gossett eventually got a handgun and put it to the man's head.

The victim gave Gossett $37 and tried to call police with a cellphone. Gossett knocked the cellphone out of the victim's hand.

The victim then ran out of the residence and went to a neighbor's house to call 911.

Gossett fled on foot and wasn't caught until Thursday.

The victim had earlier identified Gossett in photo lineup as the robber.

During an interview with authorities, Gossett said this was all a misunderstanding and that the weapon was actual BB pistol.

He said he was trying to sell the pistol to the victim and that they both "freaked out" and ran out of the residence.

Gossett said he threw the pistol away in an unknown area and denied stealing any property from the victim.
