A kitchen fire caused an estimated $20,000 to a Cole County home Tuesday night.
Reports from the Cole County Fire Protection District showed the fire in the 5000 block of Shady Lane was called in around 7:45 p.m.
A couple had left the kitchen, where food was cooking, and went into the living room.
A short time later, they noticed smoke coming from the kitchen and saw the fire.
The residents went to neighbors to have them call 911, then went back in to try and put the fire out with extinguishers.
Fire crews arrived a short time later and had the fire under control in a few minutes.
One of the residents was treated for smoke inhalation.
